A classic holiday recipe.

Ingredients

  • ½ c. shortening
  • ½ c. sugar
  • 1 c. Original Molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ½ c. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 c. hot water

Directions

  1. Cream shortening with sugar. Blend in molasses. Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  2. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and spices. Add to creamed mixture alternately with hot water.
  3. Turn into a greased 9x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake in 350F oven for 40 minutes. Cool.
